TideMinders control docks/mooring lines in tidal, surging, or choppy waters and they also allow automatic line adjustment to tides.
TideMinder Kit – set of 9 balls.
See Figure 1 — Mark your line at center/far side of piling. Slip on the TideMinders with the middle ball over your center mark. Tie Figure 8 stopper knots at each end of the array of balls. An overhand knot is NOT suitable (it is too hard to open or adjust after being under load).
Loop the line around the piling, keeping the middle ball at the center/far side of the piling. Tie off the standing and working ends at a deck cleat, or tie off the standing line to the cleat and use the working end to tie a bowline, as in Figure 4. A running bowline is even better; it is just as safe but easier to open in a crisis. Be sure to align the TideMinders® so that neither bare lines nor Figure 8 stoppers are rubbing against the piling.
We recommend setting the lines at 15-20 degrees below horizontal — See Figure 2. Tighten or loosen lines at the deck cleat to get the best angle. If the boat lurches to one side, the balls will gently roll up or down absorbing the strain. As in Figure 3, hooks can be placed high on pilings hold TideMinders® while you’re out sailing.
