Construction & Scaffolding Industry
This month the Dr. is highlighting products and services as it relates to the Construction & Scaffolding Industry. The construction industry can yield huge profit margins and is a 12 month shrink wrap business. Government and large building contacts will often require scaffolding and exterior containment and shrink wrap is the most cost effective and durable material that can be used. Available in Extreme 12-mil and up to 60′ in width, with Flame Retardant sizes also available, the Dr. provides the largest rolls of film available on the market.
A construction site can be a vulnerable place. Whether it’s the construction of a new building or renovation/add-on to an existing one, there’s the risk of weather eroding all the hard work or ceasing it for a long period of time. Super Mileage Competition
Dr. Shrink’s shrink wrap has been used in a lot of different ways.
Missouri high school students worked with a local technical college for the Missouri Super Mileage Competition. The team built a small car and competed for maximum mileage in the competition– after the car is built, shrink wrap is used for the skin of the car. In 2017, the team won 1st Place in the competition (clear car shown) with a 219 mpg average. The idea of the clear wrap was to show the construction of the car. This year they competed and took 2nd Place. They built a roadster, with the goal of ‘best in show’. The team used shrink wrap for the body and then painted it black and they did end up winning Best in Show. Congratulations to all who participated and what an interesting use of our product!
Your Frequently Asked Questions – Answered!

Below are a few common questions we receive as people are learning about shrink wrap and becoming familiar with the process.
What color shrink wrap should I use? Is there a difference?
Dr. Shrink’s premium shrink wrap comes in blue, white and clear.
Blue absorbs sunlight allowing ice & snow to fall off the cover easier during the winter. Used for winter storage and not recommended to be used as a transportation cover.
White reflects sunlight and harmful UV rays. Best used for transportation covers and general outside storage. White shrink wrap is also the color of choice for work enclosures and scaffolding. It provides shadow-free lighting and good color rendition.
Clear shrink wrap is commonly used for greenhouses and non-storage applications.

Can the heat from the heat tool cause damage?
We must first mention the propane fired heat tools used in shrink wrapping must be used in accordance with the directions in the training DVD. Always remember safety first! The heat from the tool is swept over the cover, almost like spray painting, and is never left on one spot long enough to damage vinyl graphics, paint, gel coat, etc. In fact, the shrink wrap will become thin and holes will form before enough heat is transferred to damage the boat or object. If the shrink wrap should get a burn hole, and it appears the wrap is stuck to the boat, allow the wrap to cool and it will come loose by itself.
How do I repair tear/melt holes in the cover?
It is very easy to repair any holes that are made on a shrink wrap cover. If it a small hole, a piece of our Heat Shrink Tape will fix it quickly. If it is a larger hole, a scrap of shrink wrap approximately 3″ larger than the hole may be tape on the original cover and lightly shrunk.

ShrinkWrap University (SWU) is a one-day training course designed to give you all of the information you need to shrink wrap anything. The morning consists of presentations in a classroom setting (product information, safety and techniques, industry applications and profit margins, as well as marketing services). After presentations, we will head back to the warehouse where you will gain an enormous amount of hands-on training and advice. You will leave here very comfortable and with the propane fired heat tool and the shrink wrapping process.

Recycling Run 2018
Dr. Shrink’s Recycling Run is up and running for 2018. We’ve made some changes to our program and if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us here. The Recycling Run is now available in Michigan and Northern Wisconsin only. If you are in Wisconsin or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan there is a 75 bag minimum requirement for pickup.
Don’t forget that you MUST fax/email your Registration Form back to Dr. Shrink in order to sign up for the pickup in July. For scheduling purposes, please email/fax the Registration Form back by June 18th, 2018.
Dr. Shrink’s premium shrink wrap is 100% virgin resin material that is easily recycled into a variety of usable consumer products. Shrink wrap will NOT biodegrade in a landfill – that’s why it is extremely important to recycle. If this program isn’t available in your area, please call around to local recycling facilities and see if they will take this high quality plastic.

For buildings, an attachment system is placed around the entire base of the building. When the shrink wrap is draped over, it requires immediate attachment. Attach the shrink wrap along the base, pulling any looseness out of the material. Once secured, the entire wrap is heated and shrunk starting from the base and moving upward. “Hello everyone, Bart and I are on our way home from the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans. It is always a good experience coming to New Orleans for this show; along with good business we enjoy the friendly and fun people of New Orleans.
It is hard to believe we just celebrated Thanksgiving and we’re already on to talking about Christmas! Hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. As we “wrap up” this year, I reflect back on Dr. Shrink’s 25th year in business and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our customers, vendors, distributors, and colleagues for helping to make 2017 one of our best years yet. I appreciate each and every one of the people we deal with on a daily basis in many countries around the world. It is my mission to continue innovating new products to enhance the installation of our premium line of shrink wrap materials and provide the best world-class customer service.
I am looking forward to getting in the holiday spirit with our staff at the Dr. Shrink Christmas party next Friday. It is always a nice evening to relax and enjoy the end of another great year, and busy season. “Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! We had fun this past weekend hosting a pumpkin carving & costume party as well as a BBQ for the staff and their families. Take a look at the photos below– there were some excellent and creative costumes!
As the snow begins to fall here in Manistee, MI– our sales team has a busy month of international travel. I will be spending some time in Abu Dhabi for ADIPEC (Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference) which is the largest gathering of the global oil and gas professionals. I’m also heading to Amsterdam for METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show)– this is a fantastic show that showcases products from the Shipping, Marine & Ports Industry. Dr. Shrink, Inc. fits right in.
A heartfelt thank you to all who purchased pink shrink wrap from us this past month. Dr. Shrink donated a portion of each purchase price towards breast cancer research. For those producing large machinery, they face the challenge of properly storing and transporting the product without inflicting damage.
How it works: Shrink wrap is applied and shrunk using a propane fired heat tool; shrinking it tightly and fully encasing the piece of machinery. Before you start applying the shrink wrap, examine the object and look for areas that may need padding, protection from chafing, or need insulation against extreme heat. Then, determine how far down the cover will go and the method for securing the shrink wrap at the object’s base. Dr. Shrink’s innovative strapping system allows for easy attachment. When laying the wrap over the object, form pleats at the corners and where there is excess wrap. When shrinking, you start from the base since the rising heat warms the wrap as you work upward. Shrink section by section; and it’s recommended to heat the entire object at one time for a tighter, more durable cover. When finished, inspect and tape any holes and all pleats.

Dr. Shrink is an animal friendly place and you know that all of our animals here are like family. So, when our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound in Manistee, MI called and asked to help out, of course we said yes.
Homeward Bound asked if there was a way to shrink wrap the front and back of their building to protect the dogs from the wind and weather of our winter conditions while they’re outside in their kennels. Ryan and Ben went out there to see what would need to be done and the best way to do it.
Ben went out and ran 3/4″ woven cord strapping in between each of the beams and used the buckles and tension tool to make it as tight as possible to limit how much the film would pull at the bottom while it’s being shrunk. Once, that was done, he then created an “X” with the strapping between each beam (again using the buckles and tension tool to get it as tight as possible) to create a support structure behind the film to help limit the amount of stress that is put on the film by the wind.
Once the support structure was finished – Ben used a roll of our 12′ x 149′ 7mil white to create the wall that is needed to block the wind. Around the sides and top of the perimeter of the wall, he used furring strips that were rolled onto the film and then screwed into place to secure the film. At the bottom, the wrap was trimmed and then heat welded around a base made of the woven cord strapping to create the bottom perimeter.
With all the perimeters of the wall secure, he then proceeded to shrink down the film. After it was completely shrunk, Ben tacked furring strips to the preexisting beams on the outside of the wall to help limit the amount of movement from the wind.
