March 2023 Shrink Wrap News – from the Industry Leader, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

March Notes from Mike.

Our busy travel and trade show schedule made the month of February feel even shorter! We have enjoyed seeing current customers who have stopped by our booth at several trade shows. In the first two months of this new year, Dr. Shrink has exhibited at trade shows within the Marine/Boating industry, Equipment Transportation fields, Disaster Restoration, Aviation, Roofing & Construction, and Modular sectors. This just goes to show the growth and expansion of using shrink wrap in various industries. There are still new markets for shrink wrapping that come along every year—we want our customers to grow into these areas! If you have a heat tool you might as well be making money with it. Ask us how we can help you make that happen.

Please always feel free to contact us if you need anything, and thank you for working with us! Looking forward to a wonderful Spring season with all of you.

Warmest Regards,
-Mike Stenberg, President & CEO, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

📓 HELPFUL INFORMATION ON SHRINK WRAP INSURANCE FROM MARSHALL & STERLING

♻️ IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PREPARING TO RECYCLE – 2023 RECYCLING INFO!

✏️ CUSTOMER FAQs: COLOR AND MIL-THICKNESS DIFFERENCES, EXPLANATIONS, AND SPECIALTY SHRINK WRAP OPTIONS

🍀 LUCKY YOU! A FREE DR. SHRINK GIFT IN HONOR OF ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

We understand that getting information on shrink wrap insurance can be overwhelming, and at times it can be hard to get insight and clear answers. We have a great resource for you!

Founded in 1864, Marshall & Sterling Insurance is 100% employee-owned and their experienced insurance professionals can assist with virtually any insurance need. They have a wealth of knowledge in marine/shrink wrap insurance and are extremely experienced in this area. Please read through their nicely written and straightforward article below and feel free to reach out to them with any questions!

How does your insurance protect you? It depends on what you shrink wrap.

Did you know that what you do can affect how your insurance protects you? If you are wrapping vessels, you may need specialty Marine insurance. No worries, Marshall & Sterling Marine has your insurance know-how covered with this shrink wrap insurance step by step guide!

  1. Things you do: Liability. Shrink wrapping vessels, buildings and equipment are each a great income stream. But what if something happens and you are sued? Liability insurance protects your assets in event of a lawsuit for a covered loss. General Liability is designed to cover you for your operations on land. However, when you shrink wrap a vessel, it is left in your care, custody, and control for you to work on it, and this is typically excluded under a General Liability policy. If something happened to the vessel due to your work, and the customer sued you, an unendorsed General Liability would not cover you. How do you fill the gap? Either a specific endorsement or a Marine General Liability policy. A specialty Marine agent can help you obtain the right coverage and explain how it applies to your circumstances.
  1. Getting covered for things you do: Eligibility. It’s your responsibility to talk about the work you do with your insurance agent. You should explain your percentage of marine and land-based work. Also, explain the scope of work. There is a big difference in eligibility from wrapping farm equipment compared to wrapping scaffolding on a 20-story building. What you shrink wrap and the scope of your work will determine your eligibility with different insurers.
  1. Have a good conversation: Partnership. You know your business operations today and your plans for growth. A specialty Marine agent will understand the types of questions to ask you about your operations. Your agent will work with you, and match your needs to the right coverage and insurance carriers. This can mean a combination of General Liability and Marine General Liability, with your agent matching your operations to the policy or policies that best fit you and your business.
  1. Extra layers of protection: Umbrellas and Bumbershoots. Once your agent works with you to determine the right types of liability policies needed, the next question is – how much asset protection do I need? You can increase the limits of insurance protection over your business with an umbrella – which provides additional general liability limits. Marine coverage limits can be increased with a Bumbershoot. Limits are purchased in million-dollar layers.
  1. Stuff you own: Buildings, Contents, Tools and Equipment. Your building and its contents are insured on a property insurance policy. The expensive equipment and tools you own will need to be scheduled on a special policy called an Inland Marine, which protects high value items that move around from perils such as theft and damage.
  1. Men and women at work: Workers Compensation. Most states require that businesses with even one or 2 employees have Workers Compensation insurance in place. This pays for medical bills and loss wages from injuries workers suffer on the job. Workers are classed based on what they do. For example, it is less expensive to insure a worker on the ground compared to a person who works from heights. Your insurance agent will help you determine the proper classes for employees for the correct coverage and state compliance.
  1. Don’t forget your wheels! A vehicle wrapped with your logo, or a fleet of business trucks all require Commercial Auto Insurance. Auto liability to others and physical damage coverage for your vehicle are both available.

Shipping Cost Explanation

All shipments are rated with a number of carriers; and the rates returned are based on several variable weight and size thresholds in addition to contractual obligations that have been negotiated with the companies we partner with.

As we’re all aware, COVID-19 has changed the way companies ship product. Due to mass driver shortages, an influx of product moving in the network, and increased fuel costs, shipping prices have sky-rocketed across the board. In addition to that, we’re heading into peak Holiday season which adds ‘peak season surcharges’ to all parcel shipments with FedEx and USPS. We have no control over this.

For the last couple years, our society has been experiencing inflation happening in all markets due to these rising costs around the globe. Groceries, toiletries, and goods and services across the board have been impacted, and sadly, our shipping costs are not exempt from the issue. As we are charged more, we must, in turn, pass those increases along to the customer as any business would.

Should you ever feel our shipping costs are too high, you’re welcome to use your own carriers to ship product. Simply provide us the carrier name, BOL (if LTL), and schedule the pick-up. We can provide skid counts and dimensions for you to obtain rates if necessary. If you choose to go this route, we are certain you’ll find the above to be true. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to be your trusted shrink wrap supplier and always do our best to be as transparent as possible while providing excellent service and support. Thank you for working with us.

Industrial & Manufacturing Applications

This month the Dr. is highlighting our Volatile Corrosion Inhibiting (VCI) Shrink Wrap as it relates to the Industrial & Manufacturing industry. This is one of the fastest growing year-round shrink wrap markets; it can yield great business as customers demand packaging solutions along with corrosion inhibiting protection. Top industrial wrapping specialists can also compete with other protection methods to show greater return on investment for their clients.

Manufacturers want their products to look pristine and functioning correctly upon delivery. With all the hazards that come with the shipping process, shrink wrap minimizes the possibility of damage more effectively than other methods such as tarps. Protecting your product is protecting your reputation and business.

Dr. Shrink also has Volatile Corrosion Inhibiting Shrink Wrap available that contains additives that will prevent corrosion on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and electrical connections, for periods of up to 2 years. It will not harm glass, plastic or other parts of assemblies. VCI shrink wrap comes in 20′ x 100′ 7-mil white.

We also carry several different moisture control products such as CargoDry Paks, Mildew Gas Bags, and VCI Capsules.

Dr. Shrink Urges Marinas and Boat Owners to Recycle Used Shrink Wrap

As one of the largest suppliers of shrink wrap across the globe, Dr. Shrink urges marina operators and boat owners to recycle their used shrink wrap when getting boats ready for the season.

“Taking care of our environment that we, as boat owners and outdoor recreation enthusiasts all enjoy, should be a top priority,” said Mike Stenberg, President and Founder of Dr. Shrink, Inc. “With a little bit of effort and education, we can all do our part and recycle our old, used shrink wrap for very little cost.”

Dr. Shrink’s film is 100-percent virgin resin made of #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), which is one of the most common plastic materials available. Its recycled contents are frequently used in plastic lumber, construction sheeting and garbage bags.

Recycling and environmental stewardship are not new concepts to Dr. Shrink, as the company has launched and/or supported several recycling programs across North America, including Michigan, Ohio, the New England area, and also in Ontario, Canada.

Michigan program

“We have created a comprehensive recycling program in our home State of Michigan, and its 20+ years of success is one of our proudest accomplishments as a company,” said Stenberg, “Our goal is to continue to build upon our program, and every year, we are hoping to expand our efforts across the entire country.”

Dr. Shrink partners with the Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) and Bay Area Recycling for Charities (BARC) to keep used shrink wrap out of area landfills.

As part of Michigan’s Recycling Run Program, Dr. Shrink offers boaters EZ-Fill Bags for easy film recycling. Boaters and marina operators must register for the program to be put on the bag pickup list. Buying bags does not ensure registration to the program.

These EZ-Fill Recycling Bags are custom-made strictly for the Recycling Run Program and hold approximately 800 square feet of plastic. The bag features a large mouth opening, which allows users to easily stuff more shrink wrap into the bag.

New England and Canada

Dr. Shrink has expanded its recycling efforts via a partnership with Clean Ocean Access (COA), a Rhode Island based non-profit organization, to promote their Shrink Wrap Recycling project across New England. The goals of Clean Ocean Access’ Shrink Wrap Recycling project are to position the sailing and marine industry as an environmental leader, by creating a consumer and industry led recycling stream that mitigates the risk of shrink wrap entering landfills and incinerators. Max Kraimer, Strategic Partnerships Manager at COA says, “The project brings awareness to global plastic issues by establishing a circular economy for plastic film reclaiming it into new products for the marine industry.” The project has a regional focus on the northeast portion of the United States of America with a focus on Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine and contributes to COA’s vision of a Clean Health Ocean that is Accessible to all.

Dr. Shrink also works with Switch Energy Corp. out of Clinton, Ontario, Canada for shrink wrap recycling throughout most of Ontario. Switch Energy Corp. (SEC) has been the leading recycler of agricultural film plastics in Ontario since 2011. SEC has expanded operations to help increase recycling efforts with used marine shrink wrap.

Shrink wrap users in other areas not mentioned above can also do their part to recycle used shrink wrap. “To start, call your local recycling center and ask them if they will accept “#4 LDPE plastic sheeting,” said Mike Stenberg. “Some locations may require you to provide documentation, and Dr. Shrink is happy to help. You can access specification documents online at: dr-shrink.com/recycling, or you can email us at: recycle@dr-shrink.com.”

To ensure wrap is accepted at the local recycling center, be sure it is clean, has zero accessories (such as strapping, buckles, vents, or zipper doors), has zero moisture and is dry. It also should be loosely packed for easy handling and sorting when it arrives at the local recycling center.

Got Wrap? Recycle It

NANTUCKET, MA (June 1, 2021) – Clean Ocean Access, Dr. Shrink, Nantucket Public Works,
Glyn’s Marine, and Nantucket Marine are calling all boaters to save and recycle their shrink
wrap via a new collection program. From April through the end of August, Nantucket
residents can participate in this new pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) program to advance local
recycling processes, giving wrap a second life in new products, preserving the capacity of
the island landfill.

HOW IT WORKS:

PURCHASE EZ-Fill bags at Glyn’s Marine, and Nantucket Marine for $35 — each bag
holding approximately 800 sq. ft. of wrap, the equivalent of that removed from a 30-foot
boat.

RECYCLE your boats shrink wrap by filling EZ-Fill bag with wrap and seal with supplied
closure device. Keep shrink wrap clean and dry and be sure to remove all non-shrink items
such as: straps, vents, zippers, rope, and tape.

For a how to guide please watch this video: https//www.youtube.com/watch?v=s71gbGkfnEk

SCHEDULE EZ-fill bag drop-off for recycling with Nantucket Public Works. Returning filled
EZ-Fill bags to Glyn’s and Nantucket Marine is not an option.

Dr. Shrink, Inc. Expands Recycling Efforts with New Partnership in Ontario, Canada— Calls for Marinas & Boat Owners to Recycle Their Used Shrink Wrap

Manistee, Michigan – Dr. Shrink, Inc. is one of the largest suppliers of shrink wrap across the globe, and while offering premium and high-quality products, recycling of used shrink wrap continues to be a top priority for this global leader.

Dr. Shrink partners with the Michigan Recycling Coalition (MRC) and Bay Area Recycling for Charities (BARC) to keep used shrink wrap out of Michigan landfills each and every year. Dr. Shrink has expanded their efforts by recently partnering with Switch Energy Corp. out of Clinton, Ontario, Canada for shrink wrap recycling throughout most of Ontario. Recycling service prices vary depending on distance & quantity. Bags are available from Switch Energy Corp. All questions and inquiries into recycling in Ontario can be answered by Shane McKenna at 1-519-588-6303.

Since 2011, Switch Energy Corp. (SEC) has been the leading recycler of agricultural film plastics in Ontario. “In order to continue our success, SEC is pleased to expand operations to help provide a solution to the increase in marine plastics pollution. We feel we can have a significantly better impact on the amount of boat wrap that gets recycled in Ontario by partnering with Dr. Shrink,” says Shane McKenna.

All of Dr. Shrink’s film is 100% virgin resin made of #4 Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). This is one of the most common plastic materials available, and its recycled contents is frequently used in plastic lumber, construction sheeting, and garbage bags. Many boat owners think of our shrink wrap as a “plastic bag” which is not commonly recycled at your local recycling center, however, our material is different.

“Taking care of our environment that we, as boat owners and outdoor recreation enthusiasts, all enjoy, should be a top priority,” says Mike Stenberg, President & Founder of Dr. Shrink, Inc. “With a little bit of effort and education, we can all do our part and recycle our used shrink wrap for free or very little cost.”

To start, pick up the phone and contact your local recycling center and ask them if they will accept “#4 LDPE plastic sheeting”. Some locations may require you to provide documentation, and Dr. Shrink is happy to help; you can access specification documents online at: dr-shrink.com/recycling, or you can email us at: recycle@dr-shrink.com and we will be more than happy to assist. From there, remember to: Keep it C.0.0.L. To ensure your wrap is accepted at the local recycling center, be sure it is clean, has zero accessories (such as strapping, buckles, vents, or zipper doors), has zero moisture and is dry, and finally, is loosely packed for easily handling and sorting when it arrives at the local recycling center.

Recycling and environmental stewardship is not a new concept to Dr. Shrink, they have pioneered a number of recycling programs throughout the country. “We have created a comprehensive recycling program in our home State of Michigan, and its 20+ years of success is one of our proudest accomplishments as a company.” says Stenberg, “Our goal each and every year is to continue to build upon our program, and this year, we are hoping to expand our efforts across the entire country.”

October Notes from Mike.

Happy Fall everyone! I hope that all of our marine customers are in full swing and having an incredible start to the fall wrapping season!

As we welcome fall and October, I also want to share a special opportunity we have for this month. We have stocked up on our Pink Shrink Wrap as we are raising awareness for Breast Cancer Research. We have 100 rolls of 17’x110′ 7-mil, and we will be donating $10 from every roll to two incredible organizations in Manistee County going towards breast cancer research.

Let’s all show how we, in the shrink wrap industry, can showcase and raise awareness for Breast Cancer Research from all corners of the globe by using PINK from Dr. Shrink!

We hope you consider purchasing our Pink Wrap this fall season.

Thank you to all of our incredible customers! Be well and stay healthy. As always, please let us know what we can do for you. Thank you for working with us.

17′ x 110′ : 7-Mil : PINK WRAP

Dr. Shrink is raising awareness for breast cancer research and giving back to 2 local Manistee, Michigan cancer organizations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“This year we are trying to really engage our customers from around the globe. We are stocking up on our “Pink Wrap” and will be promoting it all month long through our “Wrap for a Cause” campaign” says Mike Stenberg, President & Founder of Dr. Shrink, Inc. “With every roll purchased a portion of that sale will go to benefit the Paint the Town Pink and the Stomp Out Cancer Fund, both benefiting the local Manistee Community.”

“As we are getting into the height of the marine recreation wrapping season, we think some of our customers will really jump on the opportunity,” says Ryan Polcyn, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Dr. Shrink, Inc. “Since you need to wrap your boat anyway, why not “Wrap for a Cause” and also get the added benefit of knowing you are helping in the breast cancer awareness efforts.”

This year for the entire month of October, Dr. Shrink hopes to sell 100 rolls of their 17’x110’ 7-mil Pink Wrap all across the world, which will generate about $1,000 that will directly benefit the SOC & Paint the Town Pink Fund.

“We have some amazing customers all across the globe that we have incredible relationships with,” says Stenberg, “We are really optimistic that we will be able to meet our goal and sell out of our Pink Wrap this October. I’m looking forward to seeing our Pink Wrap in application photos in all different countries. The goal is to spread breast cancer awareness on a global level with our Pink Wrap.”

If you are interested in purchasing a roll of our Pink Wrap, you may do so at: dr-shrink.com or by calling us at: (231) 723-2685.

July 2020 Shrink Wrap News – from the Industry Leader, Dr. Shrink, Inc.

July Notes from Mike.

As we look to celebrate the 4th of July holiday weekend, we want to take this time to also celebrate the launch of some new products for this upcoming marine season. The entire team at Dr. Shrink is proud to introduce a few new innovations along with a redesigned favorite among marine and recreational boat shrink wrapping specialists.

In addition, we also want to take this time to give a shout out to all of the Made in America companies as we celebrate the Independence Day holiday. Dr. Shrink has been a proud supplier of Made in America products for 28 years and counting. NEW CLOSEOUT/LIQUIDATION SPECIALS!

New Product Sneak Peek

As we get ready for the marine season, our R&D team has been working hard on enhancing some of your marine favorites and have a couple new additions to bring to the table for the 2020 season. Here is your exclusive sneak peak at our latest product offerings now available – or soon to be available at Dr. Shrink!

Bottom Caps are designed to fit on the bottom of 2 x 4 boards commonly used as support poles under shrink wrap covers. The Dr. Shrink Bottom Cap has been redesigned into a smaller, more skid proof version with flexible plastic to be easily installed on a 2 x 4 support post. This upgraded quality of material offers less scratching on boat decks and better stability by reducing movement of the support post on the boat deck.

Designed to be used on our premium shrink wrap for a long lasting, permanent bond and offers the strongest adhesion possible.

  • Provides unmatched adhesive power for the toughest of shrink wrap jobs.
  • Our strongest adhesive tape
  • Polyethylene film backing with rubber adhesive
  • Can be applied in wet/moist conditions
  • Works excellent on all applications requiring higher bond strength and longer life span

Properly shrink wrapping your pontoon boats for winter storage greatly extends the life of your investment. Dr. Shrink has developed a product that is designed to help make your wrapping easier and stress free. We are proud to announce EdgeGuard to our Dr. Shrink family of strapping accessories. Available in 3″ lengths and sold in a 4-pack, EdgeGuard can be placed on the vertical pontoon supports that connect the deck to your pontoons. These pieces of sheet metal are typically sharp and can easily slice through tightened strapping and shrink wrap. EdgeGuard protects your strapping, so as you tighten your perimeter band, you are not left with sheared strapping along the frontside and backside of your pontoons.

  • Coming soon and will be available in 3″ lengths – sold in a 4 pack
  • Reinforced metal core on the EdgeGuard make for easy re-use season after season
  • Easily cut to desired length with metal snips
  • Can be used in other applications with sharp corners and protruding metal

Dr. Shrink is honored to announce we have been an accredited business for 10 years on the Better Business Bureau list. We currently have an A+ rating and continue to strive to surpass our customer’s expectations, both with supplying high quality products and excellent customer service!

BBB Accreditation Standards represent standards for business accreditation by BBBs in North America. These standards are based on BBB’s determination of the attributes of a better business. They incorporate not only lawful business practices, but also BBB’s experience with ethical advertising, selling and customer experiences. For a business to qualify for BBB Accreditation, it must continually meet these standards. Not all businesses qualify for BBB Accreditation and we are proud to say Dr. Shrink does!
