Starting in 1985, before the birth of Dr. Shrink, Mike Stenberg worked as a shrink wrap installer wrapping boats, machinery, air planes, buildings, etc. for about seven years, where he perfected the trade and acquired skills that made shrink wrapping easier and more efficient. As shrink wrapping became more prevalent and widespread, Mike saw a more pressing need for distribution of premium shrink wrap and installation supplies; thus his focus shifted from being a shrink wrap installer to a distributor. In 1992, Mike retreated from the actual shrink wrap installation work to focus more on the selling and distributorship of shrink wrap materials—and this is when Dr. Shrink was born.

Mike started Dr. Shrink as a distribution company in his home garage in Manistee, MI in 1992.  His initial vision for the company was to offer expert shrink wrapping advice (which he himself had gained over the years), innovative products, premium high-quality products, and excellent service—a “one stop shop” for all things shrink wrap.  Since 1992, Dr. Shrink, Inc. has supplied high-quality shrink wrap and installation accessories to industry professionals and do-it-yourselfers. Based in Manistee, Michigan the company works with customers in all markets, from marine to industrial to wind power.  It’s this diversity that has enabled Dr. Shrink, Inc. to stay a strong business throughout the years.

Dr. Shrink's New European Flame Retardant Shrink Wrap Passes Fire Test Requirements

All products used in construction in Europe will need to meet Flame Retardant specifications under the Single Burning Item classification (SBI Method). The construction products directive of the European commission will require that all European Member states eventually use the SBI Method, instead of the traditional regulatory methods used in each country, to classify most building products.
Dr. Shrink’s new European Flame Retardant Shrink Wrap has passed the Fire Test according to EN 13823 SBI and meets the criteria for: ISO 11925-2:2010, BS EN 13823:2010, and Fire Classification B-s1, d0.
The new European Flame Retardant shrink wrap is available in white, 300 micron (12-mil thickness) in 24’ x 60’ and 40’ x 60’.

DR. SHRINK, INC. GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Dr. Shrink is an animal friendly place and you know that all of our animals here are like family. So, when our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound in Manistee, MI called and asked to help out, of course we said yes.
Homeward Bound asked if there was a way to shrink wrap the front and back of their building to protect the dogs from the wind and weather of our winter conditions while they’re outside in their kennels. Ryan and Ben went out there to see what would need to be done and the best way to do it.
Ben went out and ran 3/4″ woven cord strapping in between each of the beams and used the buckles and tension tool to make it as tight as possible to limit how much the film would pull at the bottom while it’s being shrunk. Once that was done, he then created an “X” with the strapping between each beam (again using the buckles and tension tool to get it as tight as possible) to create a support structure behind the film to help limit the amount of stress that is put on the film by the wind.

Once the support structure was finished – Ben used a roll of our 12′ x 149′ 7mil white to create the wall that is needed to block the wind. Around the sides and top of the perimeter of the wall, he used furring strips that were rolled onto the film and then screwed into place to secure the film. At the bottom, the wrap was trimmed and then heat welded around a base made of the woven cord strapping to create the bottom perimeter.

CHARITY CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT

Dr. Shrink and our Local Moose Lodge teamed up for another great tournament to raise money for the Wertz Warriors and the 2017 Michigan Special Olympics Winter Games. Together we raised over $3,100! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported a great cause!

THE ONRUST PROJECT

The Onrust Project is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of New York. Dr. Shrink, Inc. helped this project by donating one of our Rapid Shrink heat tools to help the group shrink wrap the ship for winter. The Onrust is New York State’s Oldest Ship. The ship began it’s process of being built in 2006 and was finished in 2009. The Onrust is a now floating museum that is open to the public with it’s history of the 17th century.

With all the perimeters of the wall secure, he then proceeded to shrink down the film. After it was completely shrunk, Ben tacked furring strips to the preexisting beams on the outside of the wall to help limit the amount of movement from the wind.
