DR. SHRINK, INC. GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Dr. Shrink is an animal friendly place and you know that all of our animals here are like family. So, when our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound in Manistee, MI called and asked to help out, of course we said yes.
Homeward Bound asked if there was a way to shrink wrap the front and back of their building to protect the dogs from the wind and weather of our winter conditions while they’re outside in their kennels. Ryan and Ben went out there to see what would need to be done and the best way to do it.
Ben went out and ran 3/4″ woven cord strapping in between each of the beams and used the buckles and tension tool to make it as tight as possible to limit how much the film would pull at the bottom while it’s being shrunk. Once that was done, he then created an “X” with the strapping between each beam (again using the buckles and tension tool to get it as tight as possible) to create a support structure behind the film to help limit the amount of stress that is put on the film by the wind.

Once the support structure was finished – Ben used a roll of our 12′ x 149′ 7mil white to create the wall that is needed to block the wind. Around the sides and top of the perimeter of the wall, he used furring strips that were rolled onto the film and then screwed into place to secure the film. At the bottom, the wrap was trimmed and then heat welded around a base made of the woven cord strapping to create the bottom perimeter.

CHARITY CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT

Dr. Shrink and our Local Moose Lodge teamed up for another great tournament to raise money for the Wertz Warriors and the 2017 Michigan Special Olympics Winter Games. Together we raised over $3,100! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported a great cause!

THE ONRUST PROJECT

The Onrust Project is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of New York. Dr. Shrink, Inc. helped this project by donating one of our Rapid Shrink heat tools to help the group shrink wrap the ship for winter. The Onrust is New York State’s Oldest Ship. The ship began it’s process of being built in 2006 and was finished in 2009. The Onrust is a now floating museum that is open to the public with it’s history of the 17th century.

Road Trippin’ for the Rescues!

Happy New Year! It’s been another great year and were happy to help out our car furry friends from our local animal shelter here in Manistee again. With all of your help, we were able to raise $500 to make sure the animals at our shelter had a Merry Christmas!

That’s because this is our second time ‘road tripping for a cause’! Through a few social media posts documenting the trip, and plenty of your ‘likes’, comments and shares, we were able to raise an impressive $500 for our local animal shelter, Homeward Bound of Manistee.

The Marine/Recreation Industry is a very recognized industry, but it is also generally one of the most seasonal. On, October 17th, we celebrated Boss’ Day for our wonderful boss, Mike Stenberg. We surprised him with some cupcakes and a few other gifts.

HOW DO YOU COVER YOUR POOL FOR THE WINTER?

One of our customers, William had a great idea for his above ground pool – so he put it to the test this year.
For the middle pole, he used a 10′ piece of galvanized rigid conduit, cut it to 6′ height and embedded it in a 5 gallon bucket filled with concrete with a plastic pan under the bucket to protect the pool liner.
William used 3 – 2×6 pressure treated boards cut to 6″, screwed the top piece to a short vertical 2×4 to fit the standard top cap. Then he used another 2 – 2×6 boards with round holes drilled to fit over the conduit and then screwed into the top of the 2×6 boards.
Once he got all that done, he ran 15 pieces of strapping across the pool and over the cap. Then laid the shrink wrap over the top of the strapping and the top cap. He used 15 boards around the pool so that the shrink wrap could be tucked under and screwed to the deck, so it would be secure around the edge of the pool.
He contacted another one of our customers that does the shrinking, Zach to shrink the wrap for him.
It was an idea put to the test and we think it’s a great idea!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Manistee Celebrates ‘Paint the Town Pink’ Today!
Our local town is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness by having their 9th annual Paint the Town Pink today. All donations stay local to benefit women’s services at West Shore Medical Center.
The Gathering starts at 4pm, Ceremony at 4:45pm and walk at 5pm. If you’re local and can make it, come out and support a great cause!
To help spread the word, Mike and Bart from Dr. Shrink, Inc. shrink wrapped the ‘Survivor’s Rock’ – a rock dedicated to all of the survivors. We welcome all survivors to sign the shrink wrap. The ceremony is located downtown by the water fountain, so it’s definitely an eye catcher with Dr. Shrink’s Pink Shrink Wrap.

New Sling-Shield Size Protects Even the Largest of Vessels and Vessel Finishes from Boat Lift Slings

To help protect a boat’s finish from marks caused by boat lift slings during launch and haul-out, international premium shrink wrap supplier, Dr. Shrink, now offers Sling-Shield in three different widths to accommodate all sling sizes. Made with a 6 or 8-mil white polyethylene material, the Sling-Shield has been formulated specifically for use on boat lift slings and fork lift tines.
Made from 100% virgins resins, the Sling-Shield is designed to resist tearing and punctures. Sling-Shield is also easy to keep clean as dirt and grime can just be pressure washed away. This product is simple to install and only requires on person to get the job done. In addition to it’s use on boat lift tines, Sling-Shield is great for protecting sail boat masts during transportation. It’s also helpful as a ventilation tube, when used with a fan to allow airflow into boats during service and manufacture.
Sling-Shield was developed by Euroglass and is available in three widths: 16″ for standard slings, 18″ for sling with rub-rail pads, and now in 36″ wide for covering even the largest of yacht slings (100 ton and larger). All rolls come 600′ long and prices start at $207.00 for a 16″ wide roll. A poly vinyl tape that is used to hold the Sling-Shield to a desired location on a boat lift sling is also offered by Dr. Shrink.

Venting is one of the most important parts of wrapping a boat. A properly ventilated cover will allow cross-flow ventilation throughout the cover, minimizing chances of excess moisture and mildew. Our Weather-Tight Self-Adhesive Vents are easy to install using the one-piece pull tab that exposes over 15 square inches of adhesive. They are water resistant and can be installed either horizontally or vertically.
Our Heat Shrink Tape is a 9-mil polyethylene tape that is designed to install doors and seal pleats, seams and holes. It also has a powerful backing that adheres nicely to shrink wrap. Comes in blue, white or clear and a variety of sizes.
The End Caps and Bottom Caps are designed to fit on the top and bottom of 2×4 boards commonly used as support poles under shrink wrap covers. The End Caps have slits every 90° for the woven cord strapping to slide into and when the cover is shrunk, the sections flex downward forming a protective pad on the top to eliminate pole poke-through. Bottom Caps have non-skid discs attached for added stability.
The Professional Film Cutting Knife is used to safely and smoothly cut shrink wrap during installation. No danger of scratching or cutting with it’s hooked end. The Ring Cutter is a convenient strap cutting tool that allows you to keep a blade available throughout the shrink wrap process and cuts woven cord strapping with ease.

Now it’s easier than ever to see just how much humidity is in your shrink wrapped products with Dr. Shrink’s new humidity readers. Both of our humidity readers are great additions to any shrink wrap project where humidity is a factor.

HUMIDITY DIAL (DS-HUMIDITYDIAL)

The Humidity Dial shows humidity (by percentage with the dial) inside shrink wrapped objects. The Dial scale ranges from 0% to 100% humidity – the dial with automatically adjust to level of humidity inside shrink wrapped object. Great for small boats and smaller equipment. Easy to read dial with clear display window.

HUMIDITY INDICATOR (DS-HUMIDITYIND)

The Humidity Indicator shows humidity (by percentage in colored bubbles) inside shrink wrapped objects. The Humidity Indicator scale ranges from 40% to 80% humidity; you will know the humidity percentage once the percentage marker turns pink. Colors will revert back if humidity goes down. Great for large industrial equipment, machinery, wind energy equipment, greenhouses, and more.
